New Renderings Show The Domino Sugar Factory Mega-Project On Kent Avenue in Williamsburg

The first building, 325 Kent Avenue, will be opening in July this year and It offers more than 100 affordable apartments.

Developer Two Trees has published new renderings of the Domino Sugar Factory, a soon-to-be “must see” mega project on the Williamsburg waterfront in Brooklyn. Back in 2016, more than 100 apartments at popular new 325 Kent Ave, expected to be open in July this year, were available through the housing lottery, which ran from almost three months (Nov. 28 – Jan. 20). Only singles making between $21,722 and $25,400 annually were eligible for the buildings cheapest, $596 a month apartments.

SHoP’s doughnut-shaped 325 Kent apartment complex in Brooklyn consists of a 16-story structure running along the East River. This faces Kent Ave on the west end of the site, where to the neighboring East is Williamsburg. It is part of a major redevelopment of the famous landmarked Domino Sugar Factory in Brooklyn.

“325 Kent is the first building to open on the Domino Sugar site and with that we are delivering on our promise to bring striking architecture, affordable housing to local residents, and local Brooklyn retailers to the Williamsburg waterfront. The building features incredible outdoor space for residents to enjoy, that will complement the spectacular new waterfront public park coming to the neighborhood next summer,” said Jed Walentas, principal of Two Trees Management.

The Real Deal also reports, “Two Trees Management received nearly 840 applications for every affordable apartment at 325 Kent.” Additionally, Two Trees also mentioned more news about its second residential building, 260 Kent, with 330 rental units and also, more than 20 percent of which will be set aside as affordable housing.

The mega project will host a full spectrum of real estate wonders including a total of 500,000 square feet of commercial space, a waterfront park as well as four residential buildings (2,800 rental apartments approximately). To top it off, 325 Kent is expected to offer a 7,000-square foot roof deck, catered parties and dinners.

On the other hand, in a recent DNAInfo article, the first tenants at Domino Sugar Factory will be the trendy artisanal eatery Mekelburg that began in Clinton Hill in 2015. It will open a bar, restaurant and shop at 325 Kent Avenue. “The Domino Sugar Factory site will soon be a top 24/7 destination in Brooklyn,” Mekelburg’s owner Alicia Mekelburg said in a press release, “and we can’t wait to bring our favorite beer and bites to Domino and the surrounding Williamsburg community.” This new location for the Mekelburg brand is expected to launch in late 2017 or early 2018.
