UN New York Hotel To Rebrand As Millennium Hilton New York One UN Plaza
The landmark hotel, a key property located across from the United Nations Headquarters, is about to become New York’s seventh Hilton.
The United Nations Plaza complex is an iconic landmark in Manhattan. It is a key property located across from the United Nations Headquarters that is used to welcome global leaders and their guests as well as visitors from all over the world who want to enjoy all the wonders offered by the Big Apple. After an extensive $68 million phased renovation in 2016, the UN New York Hotel will soon be rebranded as Millennium Hilton New York One UN Plaza. Are we going to be able to remember such a long name? On Aug. 30, the luxury hotel will be officially a part of the Hilton group.
This renovation is not a new experience for this landmark. The hotel has gone through many stages since its conception. The Hotel opened on June 8, 1976 and was constructed by the City of New York (originally containing 288 rooms). Its first name was the United Nations Plaza Hotel -operated by Hyatt International. In 1984, Two United Nations Plaza was constructed expanding with the number of guest rooms. It is in 1997 when Regal Hotels (Hong Kong-based company) bought the property from the City of New York in 1997 for $102 million. The new name? the Regal UN Plaza.
Three years after in 2000, Millennium & Copthorne Hotels bought it and became the Millennium UN Plaza. The owners renovated the hotel in 2013 and renamed again as the ONE UN New York Hotel. The latest chapter is the one lead by Hilton – one of the largest hotel brands in the world. The company was contracted to manage the hotel in August 2017 and it was renamed Millennium Hilton New York One UN Plaza.
The $68 million phased renovation started in 2016. There are a total of 439 rooms and suites upgraded, all with one-of-a-kind Manhattan skyline or East River views. Currently, the hotel offers 7,500 square feet of meeting space, with six versatile meeting and function rooms offering panoramic views of New York City. The ballroom can accommodate up to 300 guests.
The hotels offers all the perks that we usually find at the Hilton hotels. Dining options include The Ambassador Grill which offers modern, all-day dining serving classic dishes in a historic setting and the Skyline Club which sits on the 30th floor overlooking Manhattan, serving breakfast and all-day refreshments with private access to the rooftop bar.
Mr. Kwek Leng Beng, Chairman of Millennium & Copthorne, Plc., commented: “We are very pleased that our unique property located on the grounds of the United Nations headquarters will be managed by Hilton as Millennium Hilton New York One UN Plaza.
